Nuovo arrivo in Biblioteca! 

Gli scorsi giorni sono stati aggiunti al patrimonio della nostra Biblioteca le copie anastatiche di quattro antichi processionali a stampa risalenti all’inizio del XVII secolo. Gli esemplari originali, conservati alla Biblioteca Mazzarina di Parigi, sono attribuibili al novarese Giovan Battista, in religione Tommaso Obicini, nominato Custode di Terrasanta dal 1620 al 1622. Si tratta di processionali in-8° che comprendono anche parti musicali. Ciascuno di essi si concentra sul pellegrinaggio a uno specifico luogo santo: il Santo Sepolcro, Ein Karem, Betlemme e Nazareth. Quest’ultima si riferisce a un’edizione stampata a Roma dal tipografo Stefano Paolini nel 1623. Le altre tre, anch’esse risalenti al 1623, sono invece di origine veneziana, nonché opera del tipografo Niccolò Misserini. Ricordiamo a questo proposito la recente pubblicazione curata dal prof. Barbieri, “Antichi processionali per la Terra Santa e il Santo Sepolcro (Venezia, 1491, c. 1494 e 1585)” (Istituto per la valorizzazione delle abbazie storiche della Toscana, Montepulciano, 2022) conservata presso la nostra Biblioteca. Proprio l’ultimo processionale analizzato dal prof. Barbieri, risalente al 1585 e dedicata al Santo Sepolcro, costituisce una delle edizioni precedenti dell’opera poi aggiornata dall’Obicini.

New addition to the Library! 

In the past few days, anastatic copies of four ancient printed processionals dating back to the early 17th century have been added to our Library's holdings. The original copies, preserved in the Mazarin Library in Paris, are attributable to Giovan Battista from Novara, in religion Tommaso Obicini, who was appointed Custodian of the Holy Land from 1620 to 1622. These are processionals in-8° that also include musical parts. Each of them focuses on a pilgrimage to a specific holy place: the Holy Sepulchre, Ein Karem, Bethlehem and Nazareth. The latter refers to an edition printed in Rome in 1623 by Stefano Paolini. The other three, also dating from 1623, are instead of Venetian origin and the work of the printer Niccolò Misserini. In this regard, we would like to recall the recent publication edited by Prof. Barbieri, "Antichi processionali per la Terra Santa e il Santo Sepolcro (Venezia, 1491, c. 1494 e 1585)" (Istituto per la valorizzazione delle abbazie storiche della Toscana, Montepulciano, 2022) kept in our Library. It is precisely the last processional analysed by Prof. Barbieri, dating back to 1585 and dedicated to the Holy Sepulchre, that constitutes one of the earlier editions of the work later revised by Obicini.

Nuovo arrivo in Biblioteca! 

Nei giorni scorsi è giunto in Biblioteca un dono prezioso dalle suore Giuseppine di Gerusalemme. Si tratta di uno splendido esemplare della Bibbia nella traduzione tedesca di Lutero. L’edizione è stata stampata a Strasburgo nel 1626 dal tipografo Lazarus Zetzner Erben. Si tratta di un’edizione tascabile in 12°, divisa in quattro parti. In questo caso però sono stati tutti cuciti insieme creando un oggetto di strane dimensioni. Purtroppo le placche in argento ai piatti sono andate perdute, mentre si è conservata l’antica doratura e goffratura dei tagli. New addition to the Library! 

In the past few days, a precious gift from the Josephine Sisters of Jerusalem arrived to the Library. It is a splendid copy of Luther's German translation of the Bible. This edition was printed in Strasbourg in 1626 by Lazarus Zetzner Erben. It is a pocket edition in 12°, divided into four parts. In this case, however, they were all sewn together, creating an oddly sized object. Unfortunately, the silver parts on the boards have been lost, while the antique gilding and embossing of the edges has been preserved.
